I keep a copy in the bathroom because it makes great toilet paper. Bishop Spongbobsquarepants is clearly ignorant of scripture. His goal is to taint the faith with FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt). The reason he penned this hack was to besmirch Christianity, validate an immoral lifestyle and bolster the Leftist agenda by taking cheap shots at true Christians. His failure as an author is exceeded only by his failure as a man. His attempt to undermine Christianity is laughable as God is not mocked. I would expect nothing more from hacks of his ilk. This is nothing more than a whiny, ineffectual , agenda driven diatribe.
Misinformation and twisted meanings into scripture Here's a bit of misinfo: the author claims Sydney Poitier won an oscar for the 1968 film Lilies of the field. Wrong! Lilies of the field was a 1963 film.^M
admirable expose of intolerant fundamentalism Of course Spong's arguments will not persuade fundamentalists because he uses rational arguments based on close analysis of biblical texts. The true fundamentalist is immune to reason and evidence, and often knows only a few proof texts in the bible. And they account for a very large percentage of Christians who are faithfully gullible to biblical distortions and literalism---especially when literalism ignores bibilical contexts. |
