c'mon...don't play naive and pretend that racism doesn't exist in the Christian world!

For too long have Black children been fed subliminal messages that everything white is good, and black is bad. The same is true when it comes to images of Jesus. It is easy for white people to accuse blacks of being overly sensitive about these issues when images portraying white people are always positive. A white parent never has to explain to their child why there are no people that look like them in the Bible. No, because that question would never enter a white child's mind as white children, as a matter of course, are always exposed to positive images of themselves. Whereas a Black parent, sooner or later, will have to answer their child's questions about why Jesus is white, and why there aren't any black people in the Bible. One reviewer alluded to the fact that children are color blind and so is God. Hogwash!First of all, God invented color, and He is not blind to anything. He is the all-seeing, all-knowing God. And the color of our skin was no accident, nor is it insignificant as God took deliberate measures to make black, white, brown, etc. To dismiss my color is to dismiss a part of who God made me to be. It was God's idea to create different races, hues, and colors in the first place, and I don't believe He is blind to my color. I believe He sees it clearly and appreciates the beauty that He, Himself, created. And give children a little more credit. This society is designed in such a way that a child learns early on about the differences in the races. Racism is an ugly cancer that permeates every facet of our world, and children can't help but be exposed to it. This country's founders were slavers, and sadly, the spirit of their hatred has been perpetuated through their posterity. So, don't play the naive role; don't try to hide behind your Christianity and pretend like these problems don't exist. I wonder how many white people would buy this Bible for their children if the image of Jesus were that of a Black man? Yet, you scream with amazement when black parents want to expose their children to positive Black images. Hypocrites.

Wonderful Childrens Bible

This bible was given to me by my parents when I made my first communion more that 20 years ago. It has meant so much to me over these years. I plan on giving a copy as a communion gift to my son this year. As we read through mine we do not pay any attention as to what color hair someone has, or what color skin they have. This book is to educate your children on God, Jesus and many others, that is it. I'm so glad that it is still around.

I'm confused...

First, let me say that it is a great book for kids, especially if they are visual learners like I was and am. They can infer much of the story without even knowing how to read. ^M
