I'm a skeptic and this book is a real eye-opener
Christianity is certainly THE most persecuted faith in the world ("the divinci code" being the latest attack) but this book demonstrates that it is, ironically, THE most well-supported by historical facts. All the usual stupid-minded attacks are shown to be, well, stupid--in the face of the over-whelming evidence.^M
Look at the facts...
This book is great about using professionals in coming to conclusions about who Christ was. It is not intended to be a running debate so those who want another view besides the view that Christ is God isn't going to want to read this book. This book gives the reader a perspective of leading theologians, historians and doctors that are well respected, not only in Christian circles, but also in secular ones as well. This is a great follow up book to McDowell's "More Than a Carpenter" and more sufficient in showing not just in the internal support of Christ through the Bible, but external support through medical professionals of what Christ went through on the cross. ^M
Not what the title led me to believe...
The subtitle, "A journalist's personal investigation..." led me to believe that this would be an objective, balanced treatment. However, the author is a born-again Christian whose bias shows. He even points out the exact date he became a believer, in 1981, well before he began researching the book. The "research" he presents consists of his interviews with scholars selected and conducted with the not-so-subtle objective of convincing himself of the authenticity of the Gospels.^M
