| Paperback Description While the Bible may be the word of God, transcribed by divinely inspired men, it does not provide a full (or even partial) account of the life of Jesus Christ. Lucky for us that Christopher Moore presents a funny, lighthearted satire of the life of Christ--from his childhood days up to his crucifixion--in |

So naughty, but so FUNNY! I stumbled across Christopher Moore's newest book 'A Dirty Job' and the subject matter intrigued me but I wasn't willing to pay full price for a hardcover at a book store. Lucky for me I also read about 'Lamb' in the liner notes of that new book, and I found it marked down, so I picked it up. I am so happy that I did!^M
Even Funnier the Second Time! I can't provide anything but an enthusiastic recommendation for anyone who thinks they might enjoy the story of the historic Jesus and his boyhood pal (the fictional 'Biff' of the title). It is an outstandingly conceived comic novel, even knowing "the Christ story" does not detract from the enjoyment to be found in considering, as Moore does, what the Messiah's life would have really been like. ^M
Thought Provoking Lamb at times is humorous enough to bring tears to one's eyes. At other times the book becomes thought provoking in a way one forgets the book is meant to be funny. No doubt the scoffers will denounce the book without giving it a chance. Christopher Moore may in fact be sacrilegious, but I didn't notice because the book made me think in between the rib-tickling giggles and all-out gut-busting laughs. Is the stone-faced Jesus we know from traditional religious teachings the true face of the Christ, or was the Messiah a human boy that had to learn to be the savior? Moore takes the reader on a journey worth the trip. |
