The Bishop of Durham has, in this short book, compiled an overview of the life and meaning of Jesus Christ. Part 1 addresses the theological implications of the life and following of Jesus by looking at various books of the New Testament (Hebrews, Colossians, Matthew, John, Mark, and Revelation). In this section I found intriguing perspectives of Christ's life pulled out of scripture that I have never seen before. Part 2 tackles a host of various topics (temptation, heaven, hell, and more) where Wright gives a brief and more honest appraisal of those issues that seem to raise questions for the church and culture alike.^M

Great Book

This is the first time I read a book by Wright, and I'm glad I listened to other Amazon reviewers and got a copy. It is basically an overview of several books of the bible, but it's not only a summary - it really makes you think about these books and why they were written and what they can mean in your life. Wright brings out key points and stories and makes them very "real" to the reader.^M

I love this book!

I really can add very little to the previous reviews, but want to underscore that this book is a work of beauty. Tom Wright's discipleship is joyful, compelling, and coherent. He responds to distortions of Christian belief, faith, and discipleship, without ever alienating his reader. His sermons are thoughtful, entertaining, accessible, and challenging. This is a book I am now buying multiple copies to share, and plan to organize a seminar class around. It is short enough to get through quickly, but each essay is worth spending some time in thought and prayer about, and leads the interested reader to explore scripture. This is a wonderful work, from a really gifted prophet.
